mfg paint suck?
What's the deal with current mfg practice of painting new vehicles with paint/clearcut whatever, that scuffs and scratches if you look at it the wrong way? seems like the paint of old, held up to much more abuse than today's paint.

Everything is water-borne now, old days they used oil-based paints. Cars are mostly painted by robot now but that's just a giant spray can and I'm certain the nozzles get clogged from time to time....
The paint on my '17 SD is far better than my '15 Mustang....it is Guard Metallic (dark green) and has light and dark spots all over the car....it's almost comically bad.....but I still like the color.

Thank the EPA for many of our woes, including water based paint. I did get a nice paint job on a new car but it was made overseas where they can still use high VOC paint. Even new exotic cars can fall to this, my 28 year old Testarossa had paint with greater depth and smoothness than brand new Lamborghinis it was sitting on a showroom with. I'm a big fan of acrylic lacquer myself.
