I understand that value is in the eye of the beholder but the bank doesn't always see it that way. I'm trying to figure out what to offer these people and how to convince them that an '04 Limited with 142k on the clock isn't worth the $21000 they are asking if the book values don't give it that.
For a 6.0?

In the meantime I ended up buying one that I was waiting to hear from the mechanic on. It's in NE, I'm headed there Friday evening to get it.

NE, as in New England? If you are in TX and are used to what used vehicles typically look like down there you may be surprised at what a few Winters of salty roads can do to a rigs under body up North. Get LOTS of close up pictures of the underside before you travel for a Northern EX.
I'll post up pics for sure once we get it. And yes it is a NEBRASKA vehicle although it started its life in Nevada.
I had a mechanic check it out and he did a FaceTime video walk thru (thank God for technology) of the underside and inside and out. The frame had a tiny bit of rust but the bolts and ball joints, and important stuff had NO rust on it! Body had zero rust and the mechanic, who has an Ex of his own, showed me spots that, on his, would collect dirt and have potential to rust but this one had none of that.
I was very concerned about that but after the video walk I am highly confident in the vehicle's condition.
OK (Oklahoma), I saw the NE and immediately thought New England, which of course isn't a state but a region. If I would have given Nebraska a second's thought I would have probably though it's abbreviation was NB, which as we know is actually New Brunswick, which of course isn't a state either..........It aint easy being this thick headed sometimes!
Good luck with the trip and new EX, looking forward to some more pictures!
A low mile clean X with a studded 6.0 or bulletproofed as some say, will bring a premium. When I was searching a year ago it was common to find them priced around $20k. If the work is properly done it could make it a good buy. Personally I bought a clean well maintained with records X with original head bolts and head gaskets and no tuner ever installed for $13k. I'd rather have a shop I trust perform the stud job if it's ever needed.

I don't Monday paying a premium if it is warranted. The one in question was bone stock other than springs and dual shocks up front and some nice wheels and tires. No enigne work done, didn't feel it warranted the price but who am I to really say? I didn't want to pay it so I found one a little cleaner and more up my alley, bone stock and a clean slate for me to begin all of MY mods rather than trying to figure out what the previous owner did or didn't do already.
Sounds like you were right on to not pay that much. I wouldn't have. I think the non modded trucks that aren't studded yet as long as they're mechanically sound are the better ones to buy. I was specifically looking for non modded X's with great records of service history and I found exactly what I was looking for and i feel i got a decent deal on it. I could have probably paid less for it but i thought it was worth the $13k I offered.

Well, trip to Nebraska was a huge success!! The Ex was spotless and dang near looked brand new. Interior is a 10/10. Drives great, engine is strong and smooth. Other than the expected soft suspension and steering wander I have no complaints. Planning my engine updates and suspension updates now.
Pics to follow shortly.
First two are from dealer website, didn't have time to get any full size shots after I got it washed, my family was hungry for the pizza we went and picked up. Second few are after we got home and washed up I was able to snap before I got fussed at to come eat.
Get rid of the dealer plates. Looks to be in perfect condition. Change all the fluids and make sure you put all the recommended stuff in. What's your engine plans?
