Ignition basics?

Hi All
I recently swapped a drive line and wiring harnness out of a 72 into another 72.
Now I have been tinkering with old fords for years but still consider myself electrically challenged.
The motor started in the old truck, once swapped over I am not getting it to start.
With the key off, I get power to the ignition swith. With the key in the on position I have power out of the switch, power to the positive side of the coil. Since I am working by myself I did not try turning the key to start and checking the "S" post on the selinoid. I am assuming that once I do I should see power at the S side and then down to the starter? What else should I be checking?

From your description it sounds like when you say won't start you're saying it won't crank. If working alone you could disconnect the starter cable from the solenoid and turn the key to the start position and listen for the solenoid to click.

You can jumper the s terminal to hot, if it cranks the solenoid is good.

Yep, I was thinking about jumping the selinoid, and yes not cranking. I did replace the selinod in this process, but I have seen them bad right out of the box. If I am getting power back to the S positon on the selinoid then I am assuming I have things wired right?

A mistake I have seen a few people make is that the temp wire gets put on the coil. The temperature wire pulsates and not a continuous current. If she cranks and won't start, fuel-air-spark
Then check dizzy that she is not 180 out.

Note the red/blue wire goes to the "S" terminal and the brown wire goes to the "I" terminal.
Ford still carries the solenoid. Part number B6AZ11450B. You might buy a Real Solenoid.
