When we moved here it was painted a light grey. PO sprayed it and got over spray everywhere. I ended up painting the soffits gutters and fascia.

Sounds like they wanted the house to look good for sale..

I don't like using a sprayer on the house.. Goes easier, but not as good coverage..

Plus the wind becomes a factor

I think the only thing he masked off were the windows and doors. Two years later I replaced all of the windows. Replaced all of the red trim also.

Five years after moving in we replaced the roof. PO did the front half for curb appeal but was leaking and curling.

I've replaced many pieces of siding due to splits and holes that made it look like crap.

Last time I painted I used a heating iron and scraper to get all the old paint off down to the board.. Then sanded it and primed and painted.. Has lasted a long time

We were dreading a new roof because we don't have 20 grand buried in the yard. Good thing the insurance covered it.

When I sided the porch I primed with oil based stain in the color of the house, then gave it one coat of the latex stain, when that was dry I installed it and caulked, then gave it another coat of the latex stain and called it done. Actually looks better than the rest of the house.

The way you did it the stain had a chance to seep into the wood better.. That is why it still looks good

That doesn't work with paint...LOL

I could never roof our house, getting too old and weak. That young kid is long gone, and all that is left is this old man. LOL

Doesn't help that the sun dries it out so fast. I load the stain down with Flotrol to retard the drying process.
