Hey new to the forum. Been working in my 1945 ford now for a while and scratching my head a lot wondering how to put this puzzle back together. The truck was apart when I got it with a lot of parts damaged or missing' Was needing photos or help with installing my hood for the first time. Ordered new hood springs and hinges and also hood mount and the four hood bolts from Dennis Carpenter. As I bolted them on last night for the first time the rear hood bolts hit my cowl when the hood is closed cutting into the primer. No adjustment will keep the bolts from hitting.{ Glad I haven't painted yet]..Have not installed the spring hinges yet. Am I doing something wrong ? Don't have any photos yet. Any help would be appreciated..Need help to get this ford back on the road..Thanks
That does help. This is my first old ford project and it was taken apart when I got it. hood bolts and hinges throw away from old owner. The hinge bolts with the wire running that I got new have a long shoulder that leaves a lot of play and when closing the hood the back bolt head hits the cowl. Every after market sight I have looked at offer this same hinge bolt to bolt the hood to the body..not working for me. The head sticks out way further than the original bolts your showing. Thank your for posting this photo. Just trying to figure this out..
Thanks again White 66 for the photo..thats a big help posting these. That is how I mounted the new hood hinge. have not mounted the spring support yet..Tacomacream those are the same bolts I got . They are listed as hood hinge bolts and do fit the four holes threaded in the hood but the shoulder is way to wide and the head of the bolts to thick. Test fitted them and the bolt closest to the cab cowl is hitting the cowl when closing the hood. These are the only bolts I see anywhere on line for the hood..Also not sure where the washers go. Hinge slides back and forth on the extra long shoulder. White 66 your hood hinge bolts look nothing like these posted. Maybe I'm way off or doing something wrong. Not sure where to go next with this. These bolts are not working. 44jail bar did you buy these as the hood hinge bolts also? Thanks for you help.
Talked to a guy today that has a 47 and he told me the hood hinge rest and pivet on the small shank on the hood itself so these after market bolts I bought wont work with the shank ..should be half inch long with threads all the way up..help me with this if I'm wrong.
Would these work? MacsAutoParts.com p/n 32-20006-1 $6.49 for a 2-pk. Looks like they might be the same as the one at the forward linkage location. I used in them in my 1940, but the hinge configuration is different than yours. The wave washer goes in between the arms.

Yes, the short non-shoulder bolts attach the two short support arms to the rear of the hood and butt up against the shanks built into the hood. They are 1/4-28 x 1/2" long and have drilled heads for a lock wire. The shoulder bolts attach through the spring hinge ends and through the hood and cowl flanges using Stover type lock nuts (nylock nuts will work as well). They are 1/4-20 and their shoulders are 5/16" in diameter. They are 5/8" long overall, not including the hex head. The wave washers can go between the spring hinge arms at the hood and cowl or depending on their inside diameter, between the bolt head and arm. Hope this helps/ makes sense.
On my hoods, the shoulder is on the HOOD and takes a regular head (drilled) bolt.
I think the bolts listed above are used when the shoulder is worn away from the hinge.
I just had a look at C&G Ford Parts web site and they mention two different type of bolts. One type if your hood has a shoulder and another type if there is no hood shoulder.
#3110 Used on 1939-48 cars and 1940-47 pickups that DO NOT have a shoulder on the hood. If there is a shoulder order #350345-3.
