Need some advice. My 93 E350 Class C RV has a dim CEL (engine running). The CEL is bright during the startup test (key on, engine off), and is off when the ignition switch is off.
I've found some info online, here's where I'm at:
My ignition switch (cylinder) was bad (outer piece was loose). I found another forum saying to replace the switch for the dim CEL, so I hoped it was this easy. Replaced the switch yesterday, no change.
Next idea I found was a bad EEC relay. Swapped it with the fuel pump relay, no change.
I did find an old response to an online question suggesting that the cause may be worn insulation on a wire causing a weak grounding, causing the CEL bulb to come on weakly. We've had mice in the RV, so this is a good possibility (chewed wire).
Any advice beyond looking for a bad wire?
Any advice on the easiest way to locate a bad wire (using a meter, etc.)?
Being an RV, there's no shortage of wires, and very limited room to work.
I would check grounding. Check for a corroded small ground that comes off the large ground to the battery lug/terminal. I am not sure where it is on a van, but you should also have a ground going from the engine block somewhere (usually the bellhousing bolt area) to the sheetmetal.
Thanks. The connections at the battery look good, so I'll have to do some digging. My worst fear is chewed wires buried somewhere (like behind the dash).
