Can anyone with more experience in ancient hieroglyphs read this serial number?

That is NOT a serial number, it is the production codes. You will need to clean it up a bit better. Do NOT use sandpaper as the stampings are not very deep. This truck was obviously repainte and when it was done, the paint filled in some of the stamps. You might try using a scotchbrite to clean it up. The first should be a number, indicating the original color, next will be the assembly plant, that looks to be HM which would be Highland Park. Next will be 1 or 2 numbers and a single letter that will identify the build date.

Regarding the Serial number, it was originally located in three places, The patent plate (pass side firewall) the Rating plate (inside glovebox door) and the Frame stamp. (pass side frame rail near the motor mount.

Ya I meant Firewall Stamp.

My best guess so far is... 2 HM 18 E 333

From what I've learned I'd take that to mean:

Vermillion Red
Highland Park, MI
18th
May
333 truck of the day

That's what I would say it is.
