Diagnosing a rattle

Hey fellas, not new to this forum, just spending most of my time in the old truck section (48-56). Any back to the issue at hand, I have a 2010 F150 FX4 with the 5.4L, and lately under slow movement (less that 20km/h it is sounding like there is a rattle. I can try to get a video of the sound later, now I'm wondering if the universal bearings in the driveshaft would be making this noise or if it could be the 4wd actuators failing? Would either of these make a loud rattle? (sounds like a heat shield shaking but all are tight). Had a Ranger up until last year so just learning the ins and outs of F150 life.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks all,

Sometimes the rubber bushing that mount the swaybar to the frame wear and allow the swaybar to rattle around. The noise from this will more noticeable going over mild bumps.

Just for the heck of it see if you've gotten some rocks or debris on the skid plates. I had same rattle sitting at drive thru not on road. Checked and found some rocks on skid plates. Cheap fix!!!

I don't know what sound you're speaking of, but I've been chasing a squeaking for months. It's been driving me nuts. I thought it was the exhaust wobbling on the hangers, or the parking brake cables wobbling or something like that. Just a constant squeaking metal on metal kind of sound. ARGG!!! Tried removing the bed cover. Tried removing trailer hitch. No dice.

Finally just last week I found it. It's in the tailgate. If I gently close the tailgate, I can jump on the rear bumper and bounce around and reproduce the noise. Holy cow that was so annoying. I guess it's the tailgate latches and/or linkages to the handle. Haven't had time to fix it yet.

Well I finally got the truck up on the lift. Used the dead blow hammer lightly on a few spots and worked my way around the underside of the truck. (Rather therapeutic) but any way, smacked my exhaust and I heard the sound. Turns out that it was just the fact that some one wimped out halfway through welding on a heat shield. Only one half was secured which is why I missed it the first time. So I secured the other side and took it for a ride, finally that noise is gone!!!! Thanks to you guys for tossing out ideas as to where to check. I will definitely be keeping an eye on those locations in the future.

Any way since the old F150 world is back to normal for me, I guess it's time for me to get back into old truck land and keep working on the 55 F350. Have a good one!
