Hello all! It has been a while since I last posted but I have another question and I would like your input. My 2004 F150 screw lariat 5.4 makes a rattle sound only at certain times. It is most noticeable when I first start the truck. It will rattle for a few minutes until I press the gas and start to go. Today I was at a red-light, the truck was in drive with my foot on the break and it started the rattle sound again. It was fairly loud. I put the truck in neutral and it smoothed out when switched back to drive the rattle came back. At times the noise can be heard when I am at a dead stop and press the gas to accelerate it will make a slight sound for maybe a second. I have the Ford Extended warranty and the truck has 70,000 miles on it. It is a great driving truck except for this noise.
maybe a heat shroud around the exhaust system. that's the easiest thing to check. You need to get someone in the drivers seat and have them make the noise while you crawl around the truck listening. make sure it's in Park and parking brake is on.

Well, the alternator went out the other day so I had my truck in the shop getting that fixed. I asked them to look for whatever was causing the rattle noise. They said they couldn’t find anything. Since the other day I have not heard the noise. Could it have been the alternator making the rattle? I hope so. I have only driven it twice since then so the noise may come back.<O</O
