Darren drove over to my place Monday. He brought all six of his wheels, cleanly sand blasted and pretty. All but one were in good shape. The bad one had a golf ball sized rust hole in the base rim wall so there was no escaping a need to replace it. These #34800s have the early 3.75" wide Firestone rims. I had a nice #37510 that Darren left here with that was a close match to the #34800. Maybe 1/4" more offset, and a Goodyear split ring design vs the Firestone RH solid ring used on the #34800s.
Darren also brought with his six wheels a seventh, a 10 lug x 7.25" variety that he had no use for. He graciously left it with me and I've now given it to my friend Rob who has a 1935 Chevy tanker similar to Darren's 1937 Ford. Stu
Thanks to Stu for the wheel I picked up. I would still be interested in a C34800 that matched the other wheels. I can use the one that is really close from Stu as a spare.
Good to hear Stu. I'll stick the 2 I have away in the trailer. Maybe when I inherit the 2 '37s I'll dig them out again.
I just got the two front wheels apart and they are in bad shape. Geno C please call me if you would still consider selling the two wheels you have. 317 758 4161
Thanks Darren
I sent you a text. I can give you a call tomorrow if you'd like. I still have the 2 wheels and tires. They're just sitting in the back of my 57 at the moment.
Digging up an old thread to hopefully find Budd wheels I need for a project. Any body have info on Budd 35820 or 34800 wheels for sale ? I was lucky to have found one at a local yard here near Mojave Ca. I really just need three more wheels but would buy a set if available .
The Budd 35820 is similar to the 34800s described above in my old post. Budd describes it as having the 3.75” (5” old system) Firestone RH rim design and 7 3/4” dual rear spacing. I don’t have any but hope somebody can help. Stu
Stu!! So good to see your response !! It’s been awhile!! I took your recommendation and purchased those wheels you suggested to me , what about 4 years ago? thank you so much for helping me on that search. And thanks for all of your knowledge.
Well now I have another project , same style and vintage but it takes duels, and the same Budd wheels we chatted about before.
would be nice to find someone willing to part with 35820s!!
There’s no better place to find these old wheels than in the SW desert areas, but unfortunately many of the old yards have gone away. If finding the 3.75” wheels isn’t happening you may wish to opt for the 4.33” ones that were also common in the late 1930s and throughout the 1940s. The hand hole shapes became more oval as the years passed but I know I recently sent one to a member that to my recall had a 1938 date. Just an option. Stu
Just went out yesterday to two yards and both were closing down , had already sold off the steel!! I do have a set of 4.33s. C34909s They really are too wide for this application setback and all. . However they can be used for rollers!!
Hey stu , of note on the c34800 , the hub size and lug holes are not quite the same on the one example I have. It will not fit over the hub and the Budd nuts do not center in the holes when placing everything center. Kind of strange since it’s an odd duck number without any references ? Maybe I have a bad example or maybe it was made as an replacement wheel for a damaged axle hubs, undersize or some such, replacement wheel to be fitted? ? I don’t know ? I do know that the 35820s are called out by ford on this Machine so maybe I’ll stick with the 35820 wheels if I can find them?
