Air Injection Removal

Hello, I am currently in the process of swapping out my 302 for a 351 and am stumped on what to do about the air injection system. Along with this swap I have removed the stock E7 heads for a set of GT40p's. The GT40P's do not have the smog ports in the back of the heads so I am trying to figure out if I can cap off the two ports that would go into each head but keep the rest of the air system in place, specifically the tube that goes to the catalytic converter? Would this setup cause oxygen to continuously sent to the cat even after warmup?

The manifolds are being swapped out for a LT headers. If I cap off the two ends that connects to the head will the air pump create back pressure causing other issues?

Thanks a lot!

That means the stock cats are going away too so you no longer have any need for the air injection system and it can all be removed. The only parts that should stay are the two solenoids next to the coil, they should remain electrically connected but vacuum lines need to be capped, and the air pump itself can stay as an idler if you like, if you remove that you need a different belt or an idler pulley but seeing as you are swapping in a 5.8 you will need a different belt anyway.

Well, the new universal cat I purchased, Magnaflow 93516, has a an air injection tube on it. The original plan was to use GT40 heads with smog ports but I couldn't source any of those and went with GT40P heads at the last minute. So I'm trying to figure out if I can cap the ends of tube that would connect to the heads but have the pipe to the cat hooked up? This setup I believe would have no leaks upstream of the O2 sensor.

Yeah that is the key.. no leaks upstream of the O2. Plugging lines is always a bit of a crap shoot and that cat doesn't need air injection to work.. and in my experience with them adding air actually overheats them and leads to premature failure. So I still say strip it all off.
