My F250 CCSB with 4.3 was just ordered last week 7/18.
I am in Louisiana. biggest hill I have is the MS River bridge.
I ordered 4.3 primarily because from all the reading here, MPG is the same or better than 3.73 for in town / rural driving at less than 60 MPh with the added benefit of more pulling power. From all reports should get equal or better MPG than I currently get in my 2006 F150 5.4L. From my reading..... The 3.73 wins primarily at interstate speeds turning less RPMs.
There are plenty of threads here on 3.73 vs 4.3 and you can read forever. I've been reading them for 9 months.
As of 2 weeks ago.... The only 4.3s on lot than I could find were1) Ziem Ford Corners in NM.... 2) Parker Ford in CDA Idaho.. . And 1 at 3). D-Patrick Ford in Evansville, Indiana. Ziem and Parker regularly stock 4.3s but these are the only dealers I have seen that do.
I drove the 3.73 and figured the 4.3 can only be better.
Just search this forum for 4.3 and get some popcorn.
Good luck!!!
P.S. - My F150 has 3.73 and 275/70R18s. I know the transmissions are different but I felt I had a pretty good handle on the F250 3.73 before I drove it.
Mtuser: Ditto others. I ordered a 350 6.2 a month ago and it’s coming with the 4.30’s based upon what I have read here and my own research. After wading through all the opinions, I don’t think I saw a single regret over getting the 4.30’s vs. the 3.73’s.
I drive 2 different 2011-2016 company trucks at work. Both are 6.2 motors, one has 3.73 and one has 4.30 gears. Strangely enough the 373 geared rig is MUCH quicker! Hooked up to a trailer the 4.30 truck pulls a load better with less shifting and lower rpms because it will stay in a higher gear. I just got to spec out and order a new 2017 F250. I picked the 430 cogs
No way the 3.73 is the best choice unless you plan to use your SD as a commuting truck. I've had both, the 4.30 is a great match to the 6.2 just as the 3.73 is a great match to the powerstroke.
