So taking the cable out was a breeze. It popped right out this time. I think I know the problem too, the cable slipped right out of the end that attaches to the tranny. While I was down there, I decided to replace the tranny filter and gasket. I noticed this:
in the bottom of the transmission pan. I looked at the underside of the transmission and could not figure out where this came from. Any ideas? I've got a few days while I wait for the filter, gasket, and speedo cable to arrive.
Also, it turns out the tranny is a C6 not a C4; at least I'm assuming that. The pan has 11 bolts and is shaped like a C6. I did some research and saw that the '74 F100 could have a C6 and a 302 cid engine. Since my '67 has the 302 and front disc brakes from a '72, I am guessing the guy put the '74 brakes, engine, and tranny into the '67. I found a cable. Now I'm just trying to find the right driven gear because my speedometer was off by 1 1/3 mph. If all goes well, this should be a much easier fix than my brakes were a couple weeks ago.

The C6 was not available with a 302 until 1978 and the C6 pan has 17 bolt holes.

C4 pan has 11 bolt holes.
My pan has 17 bolts. Maybe he got it from a '78 then. It would make sense for him to take the engine and transmission from the same truck. It would be really nice if I could contact the guy. But it's just as fun learning the hard way.
The C6 pan has 17 bolt holes, has a large notch in it, it sort of resembles the state of Utah. The C4 pan has 11 bolt holes and is squarish.
YeahYeah, I mistyped. I was texting the Marine I bought the truck from, explaining to my wife what the difference between the two were, and writing that reply. Got my numbers crossed. The pan has 17 bolts. I also meant to say the brakes were from a '74 also. That's why I was thinking he got the engine and transmission from a '74 as well.
I've been looking around the internet. Could it be the rod piece next to the red box?
Or the band strut/anchor? I haven't had the chance to take the valve body out to see where that piece came from. I'm hoping to figure out what it is and order the part soon so I can just take care of the whole transmission at once. Then I get to put in a new wiring harness...
Hey Beav, ...(LOL I've always wanted to say that !) Does your Park work correctly? Has it ever popped out of Park into Reverse?
I can't recall it ever doing this. I've only had the truck since mid-April and have only been driving it off and on since mid-May. The only issue I have noticed with the transmission is that when the car slows down the whole thing jolts when the gears shift.
I'm thinking it might be the 7D433 in the pic below. Part number C6AZ7D433A. Intermediate band actuating lever shaft.
I will look into that. Any idea how to see if it is? Will I have to drop the whole tranny out or can I get to it by removing the valve body assembly? It's hard for me to tell where the part even belongs from the picture.
Here is another pic of it maybe. If it is the 7D433 I don't see how 2nd gear was working. Is it possible that jolting you experienced was actually the tranny trying to hit 2nd then dropping to 1st?

Its very possible. That could also explain why it seems to stick in gear before upshifting. I never paid enough attention to tell if it was skipping straight to third. Looks like I'm going to have to drop the tranny to get to this.
