So why is it so dang hard to get pin and bushing kits?
Sheesh what a pain in the butt. All these kits are wrong at the store and the last kit I bought from the graveyard had the stupid incorrect serated bushings.
Just had my hinges off to adjust the door, and ended up not rebuilding them when it turned into a "drill out three broken bolts" project.
But the kit I was looking at was this one: https://www.summitracing.com/parts/r...iABEgIyrvD_BwE
Dunno if the width is right, but I think they are long enough. Also comes with two kinds of bushings. The brass or bronze ones look right, but the silver knurled ones are either for GM, or for wallowed-out hinge-pin holes?
Good thing I didn't buy them then... Danged glad I didn't cut my pins only to find that out!
From what I can tell, that .018" gap is going to next to impossible to effectively shim out.
I'd be reluctant to drill my hinge-pin holes larger, as well as to weld 'em up and re-drill smaller ones, but it sounds like that's the only option which will let you use common, off-the-shelf, pin & bushing kits.
Do you know anyone with a lathe that can turn a set of bushings from brass rod? That is, if the old pin isn't worn and the holes in the hinges aren't egg shaped.
The hinge pin kits from Amazon are manufactured and sold by a company called Total Automotive Hinge Kits. If you go direct to their website you can get the exact same pin and bushing kits for $15 cheaper than ordering through Amazon.
I just installed these on my 77 F150 and they fit perfectly.
Did you maybe buy the wrong kit? I rebuilt 3 of my four hinges using JBG hinges pins/bushings, and they turned out great. My fourth hinge was being a PINTA so in a moment of desperation I ordered a compete hinge assembly from LMC. I normally try to avoid LMC, and I was half expecting to have to return this, but I was amazed at the quality. I'd recommend them.
LMC manufactures nothing. It all depends on their suppliers... some of them make good stuff, some of them make crap. I will say after dealing with LMC and one of their sister catalog companies since 2004 that when I have had a problem, they have quickly resolved it - that helps me feel better about ordering from them.
