BJ goof pic of the seat. It's true that only the bottom has the piping. That's exactly how mine looked before and after it was redone. The lady who did my seat took the back apart to see if the piping some how came off but there was no evidence of it ever being on the back
Here are pictures from the 56 dealer catalog. It confirms what BJ and Kevin said about no black welting on the seat back. Also note that the vinyl bolster and sides were color coordinated by the trucks body color. It doesn't say what color vinyl went with what color truck but we can at least say that by the pictures, red vinyl went with a red truck and Coppertone vinyl went with a yellow truck.
My Dad's 56 custom cab f100 Truck that Im trying to bring back to life is an original black truck. It has a red, kind of, vinyl padding on the top of the dash. I say kind of because its barely padded and not sure it would do much in a crash. Although it does not have the original seats I believe and recall them to be red. Im hoping that maybe the original is under the covering that is currently on it. Will post when I uncover.
The 55 Custom Cabs had different color seat material for different color of trucks. The 55 Dealer Catalog lists the color of trucks that got the red and green seat material. "Seat upholstery is color keyed -- a warm red for Vermillion, blue, and black exteriors; harmonizing green for green and yellow."
So can we assume that the red vinyl went with red, grey, the blues and black and the Coppertone went with the greens and yellows?
