My 1987 ford with the 6.9 is having starting problems. The wait to start light would not light up, and little smoke was coming from the solenoid, i would go to start and i would get nothing. I bought a new solenoid and put it on and the wait to start light lit up for one cycle of the glow plugs and when it went off i turned the key to start it and all i got was a clicking sound. I tried to cycle the plugs again, but got nothing when i turned the key.

Sounds like a bad starter. Starting and glow plugs are 2 separate systems that work together during the start cycle. The glow plugs are an aid to starting. Did you bypass the starter solenoid? I use the screwdrive between the 2 big post. The starter solenoid is mounted to the fender close to the battery. It serves also as junction box for other things. It will have a wire coming direct from the battery.
I went out to try to start the truck today. The dome light came on, but i had no radio or anything light up. i turned the key tried to start it and got nothing. dome light isn't even on now. batteries are both fully charged and they are only a couple months old interstates 1000 cca. what would be causing all of that?
