2150 Suddenly Rich

Anyone have an idea as to what would cause a 2150 to suddenly run rich. I can't start my 302 without holding the pedal down as it always seems flooded. It'll sputter then clear out with a cloud of black smoke and raw fuel. Even after it's running it'll idle much lower and sometimes die. It WAS running fine at one point and seemingly overnight started... THIS. I don't want to adjust much right now with the thinking that some one thing has happened. I don't want to fudge the idle mixture or switch jets or something if it ends up just being a faulty part. Any ideas? Would a stuck float or needle cause this type of naughty behavior? I'll most likely be opening the carb tomorrow morning after I get off work. Thanks.

Yes a stuck float or needle would do exactly this.
