Replacement Carpet for 2012 E-350 Ext
I find the prices these aftermarket places want way too steep -- and I suspect the quality of the materials.
I'm tempted to try and fit my own carpet but wonder just how difficult it might end up being.
Here's a pic of it going in. You can probably see the gap around the doghouse. Maybe a more experienced carpet layer could have minimized the gap. The heel pad is a bit too close to the doghouse, too. IMO, it looks very nice even with some minor flaws. I have a few scraps leftover and I may cut them to fit the gap and then use some contact cement to hold them down.
I don't think it would be very easy to install flat carpet around the front wheel wells or behind the pedals, but I'm not an experienced carpet person.
In the mean time though I have thought about just buying a area rug and cutting it to loose lay on top of the old carpet and some new mats for the front to lap over the area rug. My carpet is still good around the edges where there is no traffic. Just trim it around the seat pedestals and use some of the cold seam carpet tape on the back side. If it fits right one could loosen the floor/door opening moldings, get the new carpet under them and reinstall the moldings to hold it in place where you enter and exit so it would get caught on your feet. You wouldn't have to worry about the other edges because no one will be walking on them. If you have a back seat like my van, just let it lay under the edge of the seat.
I dont have nay pics of the front floor board area right now but here is how they did the carpet around the rear wheel boxes. Looks like they did the wheel boxes first then the floor carpet and side walls. There are some brands of carpet with a more flexible backing.. Also the way you cut the carpet aligning with the woven backing makes a difference in how it lays. Instead of cutting with the weave you can cut diagonal across it and it will lay much better depending on what you are doing. Another trick that works depending on the carpet backing it to heat it till the backing softens and then try to mould it in place. A steamer works best.

I think indoor/outdoor should work great and be easy to clean.
I have seen some vans where the owner put hardwood laminate in. I thought about that too but I haul people in mine often and am afraid someone might slip and fall.
I have seen some with a vinyl floor but that can get torn unless you use the really good hospital grade which is expensive..
In my van I can push the middle seats back and have space to haul things. I have hauled a gas stove and a dryer put in through the middle doors before...
