Hey all, so I found a local 460 with a c6 transmission out of a 87 motor home. Guy wants 700 bucks for everything, package deal. Everything comes with the motor, basically I would just have to swap it in my truck.
I have a 400 and c6 in my 79 f250 2wd right now. Really low oil pressure and a slight rod knock so I know I will have to replace it all in the somewhat near future. And also I want a sleeper truck.
Right now my truck looks more so like a rat rod than a hot rod and I'd like to keep it that way, but I'd like to be able to pull up to a stop light and give a nice surprise to some other trucks.
I know the 460s are torque monsters which is fantastic, no problem burning rubber I'd kinda like more of a street truck kinda vibe. I've been watching engine builds of 460s but they are all really old and lack some info and stuff.
I'm assuming headers, cam, intake and possibly porting the heads?? I was thinking 1500-2000 for everything including the engine and tranny. I can probably sell either mine or the extra c6 for some cash back as I don't think I'll need 2 trannys lol.
I'm kinda new when it come to the nitty gritty of engine building and have a grasp on how cams intake and exhaust work together but I need some guidance on specific parts and stuff. I guess I'd be shooting for something like 400hp and 500ftlbs.
If the block needs bored, crank turned, balanced, align honed, decked, rods redone, new pistons and new rod bolts there is your budget right there. You will have to take it all apart and see what it looks like, then measure things out and get an idea what direction to go. Then again if your that far down you might want to consider a crate engine with a good warrant.y
