Consumer reports finally released their evaluation
I'm not sure when it finally hit...it's been in the last 30 days or less I think. It finally released their full test evaluation and comparison with the other heavy duty and full size trucks.
Rated better than the other heavy duties and the Nissan XD, but below the half tons. Fuel economy rated at 10 city 20 hwy and 15 overall. Performance was overall better than the othe HDs. Braking wasn't great but improved over the previous model. Best interior room, especially back of any truck. Headlights rated low which surprised me.
Obviously some caveats. Clearly they didn't test the led lights, nor the mega cab ram (for rear space) and there clearly is heavy emphasis placed on their audience perspective being based on a performance oriented car as a baseline.

If the headlights rated low then you know the report is wrong at least on that and I'm talking halogen headlights. It's the first truck to come with factory quad beam headlights. That alone is unheard-of. It's a great truck and has the best looking headlights in halogen or led.
[QUOTE=Smoking Joe;17346368]True. But they do run them through the same tests in a scientific way...it can show good trends and relative comparisons.[/QUOTE
If you haven't already seen this it might be interesting to you.
The link takes me to CR home page, but no article or test results. I entered "Super Duty" into the test results and it only showed trucks up to 2016. Did they test the new 2017, or are they testing the old trucks?
Also, if you look at CR's headlight ratings in their main publication, they seldom EVER give a vehicle which is built by an American company anything other than a poor rating.
If it has European or Asian blood, its a different story. Are they biased? I'd like to think not, but it doesn't look good. I have owned one of the vehicles they rated "poor" it had better headlights than some of those they rated "Excellent". Maybe this is just a case of a so called Scientist that tests toasters getting into a 4 ton tool and not understanding what people like us want, expect and most importantly, need.
From personal experience I find that many of the tools and appliances that CR recommends have merit and are good, but some are flat out wrong and were a very bad choice. A laboratory and the real world are markedly different, and they fail in this area.
That redesigned D-Max motor sounds like a monster.
I drove the duramax (and the new Vette) the day I placed my order. It sounded good, but I liked the Cummins on the ram better. I'm a Chevy guy, but have driven several of their 1/2 tons for work over the years. I really didn't like their trucks...and with plenty of experience with Chevys falling apart for decades decided to try the Ford. Ram 2500 shook like it was missing wheel weights at highway speeds right off the lot. Ironically I was warned about that.
Looking Forward to the Ford. I hope it holds up well.

I also have driven Chev's for years, my last three trucks have been gas HD trucks. I was looking for a new diesel truck this time round and I am not a Dodge fan to begin with, great engine just the rest of the truck seems to fall apart, so I ruled them out. I wasn't really considering Ford but I read about the truck and decided to go over to the Ford dealership and test drive an F350 before I drove the Duramax. Next I went over to GMC and really, I just wasn't that impressed. It is a fast truck and it handles very well but I don't love the interior, doesn't seem that current to me and as a truck for work it doesn't heave nearly the amount of work oriented features or seem to be near as strong a truck as the Ford in almost all respects. I wanted to like the GMC but really in my mind there was no contest between the two for the 2017 model year.

do you have a relevant personal story or perhaps a link to a credible site about all the trucks falling apart ? other wise your just another armchair quarter back amongst the million others
we could laugh all day at the blunders of ford. the simplest of things even. cab lights and cup holders. not to mention the countless pages in this section with folks having every conceivable problem on these new trucks. if your going to sling some mud atleast have a clue
