RV option for Nav

I own a 2016 F350 (CC, Diesel, LB, KR) love it.
Pull a 40' 5th wheel.
I don't love the built in nav system when I am pulling the RV. It takes me to some inappropriate roads. Its just fine when not towing. Has a nice large screen and talks to me.
I wonder how I can ask for Ford to consider an RV option for the Nav/Maps next time they update the maps?
Otherwise I have to buy an expensive add on Nav/GPS system tailored for RV's.
I'd gladly pay for this feature since my add on alternatives are 250$+

Thoughts?

is there a sub-menu for roads to avoid... or types of roads to use..

I have an "XL".. so I use a Garmin Dezl 770HDLMT. with added on RV files.
but Garmin did just release the RV770

Map updates will only update the maps and POI not the software, you are thinking more on the lines of software changes.

When using one pulling never use the shortest setting because that will get in trouble the fastest, I never rely on the GPS only.I use a combination of it and Rand McNally and preplanning.

I use a randmcnally RV GPS, A RV GPS is well worth the investment for larger trailers.

I have all my POI's in it too.

Many of us full-timers use the Garmin RV760/770 (770 is the newer model) designed specifically for RVers. Besides RV-oriented POIs, when you enter your rig's parameters (weight, width, height, length, etc.), it steers you around places where either you wouldn't fit or have restrictions on vehicles your size/weight. We've been using ours for about four years now and it has served us well. I like the interface a lot better than the built-in nav in the truck, too.

I bought the RV770, but after the first trip and it losing my truck (had me driving in lakes, etc), sent it back and got the RV660. IMO the 660 works better (has better reviews) and comes with the traffic receiver cable. The 770 doesn't.

Did you mean RV760 rather than 660?

No, the 660. It is a smaller screen but comes with the traffic cable.

I forgot to say I have the Dezl 770 its the "Trucker" version.. with traffic and available with the backup camera.

and I added the POI factory, RV files.

Never select the "Shortest Route"... my Garmin 2597 took me to the rear entrance of a large Mall...

RV GPS

Thanks for all your feedback.
Right now I use several online maps to plan out trips in advance, I don't rely on the built-in GPS. (I want to know safe routes as well as truck stops- hard to maneuver a 40ft 5th wheel around tight pumps) . As far as I can tell it offers fastest, shortest, avoid tolls and ferry, things like that, no low bridges and bad roads.
I had been looking at the Magellan Roadmate RV, or the Garmin RV.. both in the 350-400$ range.
I was wondering if anyone knew how to send a suggestion to Ford to consider a software upgrade? I'm sure they source out the gps mapping, just not sure who to or if they have rv friendly data.
I have a tire traker TPMS monitor on the window now, I guess I'll have to add another GPS as well. Shame as we have a nice beautiful display already in the dash.
Safe Roads,
Larkin

I agree... I had 4 of the Magellans over 3 models.(3 years). warranty is good.. as not one lived past 9 months... always replaced free or upgrade free...

My older Garmin is 4 years old and most of that time its on a motorcycle.. but is a car unit..2597LMT...

the Dezl 770 "Trucker" is 1 year old next month... it does the HD traffic and a backup camera behind trailer. I like the steep hills and tight turns warning. and the beep when the speed limits Change...

A couple years ago I got a Rand McNally TND 510 refurbished for around $100. Big trucking fleets would use and rotate out and Rand McNally would sell them with warranty.
Obviously it is for trucks, but it will keep you from going places you wont fit. It will also keep you off roads off limits to commercial trucks. In the east we have parkways where trucks are not allowed. You will have to interpreted the route somewhat.

First I don't tow a TT but drive a trailer truck and some of that is LP tanker, read hazmat. I use Rand McNally TND 730 truckers GPS and think it is great as long as you enter in the right information*.

I first started with a Tom Tom but for trucking is NOT the way to go. Not even for pulling a car trailer as I used it the first time pulling a car trailer from CT to NC move and it did try and put me on a road trailers were not allowed on.
And yes I do know of the parkways up north east and freaked out when my trainer had me go on a parkway down here in NC.

Besides the Rand McNally TND 730 I also use Google Maps to check other routes I may want to take over what the 730 tries to send me. I also keep a Rand McNally truckers road atlas in the truck in case the 730 or my phone (google maps backup only) fail.

*As we say they are all tools to be used to get where you want to go but you still need to use your head.
