Def problems
I wanted to see how many people are having problems with the def system I have a 2012 f250 with 30k on her I have owned the truck about 3yrs the truck has bin in the shop I believe this is the 7th time for the same issue def system fault and the engine idle soon message truck has left me on the side of the road 4 times in the past 3 months the dealer is saying ford can not figure the problem out they have the truck for weeks every time. Has anyone had this problem? Has this bin fixed for you and what was it? Thanks in advance (No I'm not going to delete it I can't in ma)
The system is pretty simple really. What fault or codes are reported?
Part of the issue some have had is confusing the system with def refills.
Here is what I do. I use the ford fill spout, but buy my def at Walmart. I use the ford spout so as not to overfill.
Secondly I never add def until I get the warning that I am less than 200 miles to empty. I never just add a jug or anything. I run it down,
I have 43K on my truck and I have never had any issues with the system.
We need to know what codes you are getting. Should be on your paperwork.

Chris, I had a ton of trouble with my '13 around the same milage as you - a bit over 30k. I think that since it's part of emissions Ford should cover it. I think my problem was "contamination". I took my truck back 4 or 5 times. Once they called me, told me it was fixed. I took a right out of the dealership and the check engine light came one, circled around and brought it right back. They wound up replacing the entire system - the tank, filler hose, heater, pump, relays - but after they did that I haven't had a problem since and I'm a bit over 60k. Just keep taking it back until they get it fixed - unfortunately be a PIA - but a nice PIA - "feel their pain" but end with "I just want my truck fixed"
