4 wheel drive not engaging

My 2011 f350 is not engaging 4wheel drive from the dash switch. When I turn it to either hi or lo it says "shift in process" but no 4 WD. It will engage manually from the hub lock, no problem. I know very little about 4wheel drive but am otherwise mechanically knowledgeable. Please help.

Diesel 6.7 long box .

Have you checked / inspected the vacuum lines that run to the front hubs?

If you can disconnect a vacuum line that runs to the back side of the wheel hub, you should be able to feel vacuum when in 4X4 and no vacuum when in 2X4. Starting in 2011, the "pulse" ESOF hubs changed to constant vacuum hubs.

You can either fix the hubs, or just manually lock them from now on. I just manually lock mine once the snow comes, and leave them locked until winter's over.
