Recently my passenger side window froze in the down position, I pulled the door panels off to check out the problem and it appeared the motor had died...just wouldn't do anything....I banged on the door, cussed alot, and then took it to my neighborhood mechanic who did some electrical testing and troubleshooting then he said "watch me"....he prceded to give the door a swift bang with his hand in the front lower edge of the door....hit the button and "the window moved a little"....then he went and got a can of silicone spray lube and sprayed the window channels....and.....
the window starting working better than it ever had.
I was dumbfounded and embarassed....asked how much...he said "nothing"...with a smile on his face.
I bet if I'd had taken it in to a Ford dealer that I would have had to replace the whole door.
Learning here is to keep the window channels lubed with silicon spray and you'll have less wear and tear on the power window motor.
A few months back I was having some sticking problems and I lubed the window tracks on my '97 Taurus and now the windows work like new. Also, keeping the rubber trim and seals around the windows clean and in good condition is important for the same reason...the windows can stick to them, as well.
