This showed up on my recommended videos today. Looks like others are coming out with negative opinions on the new spec oil. Makes me really admire the Ford engineers who probably took plenty-O-heat from the EPA when they advised their owners not to use this junk.
Interesting. I was under the impression that the real problem was with the "dual rated" oils, like CK-4/SN. I am waiting to see results from the promised 6.7 wear test.
Good topic to see. Been researching my first oil change for my new truck all night and even drove around to a number of places looking to see who stocks what. Pretty sure I'll be going with the Valvoline PBE when the time comes.
There are two important issues here:
1) Not all CK-4 oil is good oil
2) Ford 6.7 valvetrain is prone to wear
A lot of focus on the first item. Not as much on the second. Use the best oil you can find is my takeaway.
Glad i picked up a bunch of CJ4 Chevron Delo 5w40 full synthetic at walmart while still available. I ran the 15w40 in my 7.3 and was really happy with it. I noticed the Delo CK4 has a red cap, the CJ4 has a black cap. There was no ck4 5w40 on the shelves. I read that Chevron will have ck4 5w40 synthetic later this summer, don't know of any specs on it.
I think everyone who stockpiled CJ4 is glad they did it but there are plenty of good oils available also. It's just this watery CK4 that's proving to be inadequate. And what about all the other diesel engines out there? What about GM, Fiat and the bigger class? What about the passenger vehicles with diesel engines? Any high compression engine that is running CK4 is going to wear out twice as fast as with CJ4.
