my new '52 F3 3/4 ton project

My 16 year-old son decided to buy a project car as a way to earn money. Having little experience with these vehicles (but quite a bit with LBCs), I thought I'd get the benefit of all the experience here. I've added a few photos. Our plan is to get it running, then work through the body work, and possibly paint, and then sell it. We've already replaced all the brake lines (rigid and flex), and are cleaning out the old gas. From what I know of the history, it shouldn't take much to get running (recent trans rebuild, newer exhaust, driveline, seat upholstery), and my local body guy says he's rarely seen a truck of this vintage with so little rust. Our next steps are replacing wiring, 12V conversion, alternator (it's already negative ground, but still 6V), carb rebuild, cooling system, and then replacing the wooden bed, and body and paint.
I'd welcome advice and input about what to watch for, or thoughts about our plan.
Looking forward to lots of good input!

Looks nice and I look forward to seeing what you do with it, seems in pretty good condition to start with though.

I'm especially interested in your wheels. I don't suppose you know what wheels those are?

Hi and welcome,
That truck is in great shape, I wish mine looked 1/2 as good as that!
An awesome feature on this site is the search feature.....
Very first page there is a box that says "Search forum" click on that then a box will pop up click on "advanced feature"
Type what you want to search into the box and select search titles to whittle down all the posts. You can find everything..... one of my most used tools... helps you from reinventing the wheel as your fixing your truck.... good chance someone has already done what your planing.
Ask lots of questions you will find a great group on here... lots of knowledge save yourself a lot of headaches. But most important....You might be doing it to make money but remember to have fun.

Welcome. Good on you and your son for taking on a project. In the interest of sharing both encouragement and caution, I would encourage you to be very aware of the market pricing for F3 trucks as you move forward. The F2 & F3s are always discounted compared to the F1 versions. So, no matter how well done an F3 might be, it will be challenged to get anywhere near the same sell price as a comparable F1. My hope is you already know this and I'm just blathering on.

DW, we bought the truck for $2k. What would be a reasonable sale price if we get it running and rust-free?

Rather than my uninformed opinion on value in your neck of the woods, I would offer a suggestion. Look at the Craigs List ads in your area, along with eBay and any other sources, to get a sense of the current going rates for both F1s and F2/F3s. You may even want to make a couple of calls to some sellers to understand more about specific trucks. Doing this will help get you smarter on value - then you will know. This will also give you a target for ask price when the truck is ready.

As for the price you paid for the F3 in your garage, $2k seems fair for a complete, unmolested, almost running truck. My guess that you paid less than the seller's ask - keep that in mind when it comes time to set your ask number.

Good luck and keep us posted on progress.
