What are y'all running header wise on your 390s? Going to convert my 360 to a 390 or get another one altogether and I'm going to put headers on it. ( along with some other things )
2WD or 4x4? I have whatever crappy ones came with the truck and have been looking for a good replacement for a while. Most of the long tube choices out there aim the collector straight at the transmission mount. And 4x4 gets the added joy of trying to pipe around the transfer case. I am still holding out hope of finding someone who makes a fenderwell exit header for the FE engines. The last one I knew of was Mad Dog and they don't show in their catalog anymore. The next best bet would be shorties from what I understand.

Look for the header with the thickest flange and the heaviest gauge tubing and I doubt you will be disappointed. Note...They won't be cheap.
I have used Hedman Elites on numerous trucks, both 2wd and 4wd and have always been pleased with their fit and finish.
I have L&L on my own '78 4x4 (with a 460) and have no complaints whatsoever.
Are the Sandersons that much better than the Hedman Elite series?
I'm also on the lookout for new headers so info is being absorbed by more than the OP. I've considered shortys and fenderwell exit units... what's the best?
When I say "best" I'm mostly considering ease of install, fit, and longevity.... tuned for peak HP is not really a "thing" in this case.
I can't speak as to a Sanderson header since I have never used them. I have read a lot of positive comments about them, as I have with Hedman Elites, and all my experiences with the Hedman Elite have been very good.
Shortys are usually an easier fit than long tube headers. Fenderwell exits are typically an easy fit, but they bring along their own set of problems when hooking up to the exhaust system.
Personal preference and experience have a lot to do with attitudes and opinions toward headers.
If your on a budget like I was, the Flowtech's worked fine and were very affordable.... FE390 Right around $200, direct fit for my collectors, so worked out nicely.... Part# 12542FLT for 4x4
