i just recently purchased 390 headers for a 4x4. Well i just sold that after i was offered a good deal on 2x4. So my question is will the headers work on a 2wheel drive f150.
I recently purchased a set of Hedman headers for 4x4 with a 390. When I ordered them, I noticed that the 4x4 and the 2x4 were different applications. But I can't think of a particular reason why they wouldn't interchange. The steering box can sometimes be up closer to the firewall on a 2x4, which might iterfere with the header.
I think the 4x4 are also made to clear the barckets that hold up the transfercase. When I first got headers I was sold 4x2 instead of 4x4 for my 360. When I got them on the collectors sat right in front of a support bar. There was no way for the pipes to hook up. I had to take them back and get the correct ones. So I think the 4x4 ones sit a tad lower or are angled to clear the cross member.
Many manufactures list two models for 65 to 76 FE as 2x4 or 4x4.
Shop around you might get lucky and swap with someone.
Sounds like your making too much work for yourself chopping things up to make fit.
If you have 4x4 headers you may find that they will fit but the collector will be closer to the ground then a 4x2 set would. As long as you don't have a low rider ground clearance shouldn't be a problem. If you didn't live so far I could hook you up with the headers you need as I have a set laying around that are only a few years old.
just didn't no how they would fit because i thought on the passenger side the tube to the number one cylinder went around the perch? Hatemaking pm, would be interested. So far thanks to everybody for the help.
