1: does this trans temp look good and what is normal to max temp?
2: what's going on with the oil gauge?? It looks way high to me and the oil level is good.. what may cause this reading
3: the engine temp is that a normal temp?
4: when it is hot and going up a good grade something under the hood squeals pretty bad worse or less depending on throttle application.. think it's the turbo but not sure
1. I have a ZF6 manual so I am not sure but the trans temp looks a bit low, but fine.
2. Oil gauge high is good, low is bad.
3. Engine temperature is reading normal and this is just a dummy gauge, does not move much unless there is a problem.
4. Would need more description of the noise and a video if possible. Could be the Chevy driver behind you trying to keep up making all that noise...
Suggestions? I would highly suggest you use the search or advanced search in the blue bar near the top of the screen. There is a wealth of information on these very questions you have asked. Grab a beverage of your choice, and start searching as there is a lot to learn.
I third all temps look good. Squeal could be turbo, fan clutch, or belt when fan clutch comes on or boost leak. I would expect boost leak or turbo to squeal hot or cold if that's what's doing it. To check turbo, remove intake tubes and check the wheel for play, up, down, side to side and in and out. There should be minimal play on the side to side as oil does have to circulate around that shaft. Boost leak detector is easy and cheap to make, and you can also visually inspect serpentine belt condition. The fan really roars when it comes on, if your squeal occurs then the place to start is with the belt and fan clutch.
the fan sounds like a jet engine when it comes on so how would I check the fan clutch? Haven't owned the truck for too long only squeals on hot days.. cooler days it does good. I'm a chevy guy but only older models. First vehicle was an 84 k5 got 10 years ago still driving it. Didn't give a crap about maintenance back then all I cared about was beating the trails... now I pay more attention to my trucks and I'm still driving the 84... hasn't let me down on the road. But I bought my 7.3 from my brother and I'm taken with the 7.3's just still figuring things out with it.
