Homelink door opener power source

I don't have my truck yet (mid-August delivery) but would like to know if the garage door opener is powered constantly or only when the ignition is on? The truck will be too tall for my garage so unfortunately it will be parked outside.

If it is "always on", has anyone swapped the power source? I have done this with previous vehicles but only those with the homelink buttons on an autodimming rear-view mirror (tapped into the auto-dim).

Thanks,
Steven

Every one I've ever used is powered all the time, just like as if you used the remote that came with it and had it clipped to your visor. If your truck is locked then no one can reach in and push the button.

I've had vehicles of each type. I've never had a Ford so I'm not sure how they approach it. It is true that you do have to enter the truck to use it, but it is a bit like having the key to your house (or the part with good stuff anyway) sitting in a glass box on your driveway.

Just reprogram the two buttons you do use to release knock out gas in the truck cab and automatically call the police. Should make for some interesting stories!

We could have some fun for sure.

I guess the upfitter switch wiring would be in the neighborhood. Maybe I could tap into that. It's one of those mods that just lets you sleep a little better.

For that matter, I guess I could just label one of the unused upfitter switches as "garage" and leave everything stock. That'd likely suffice around these parts.

I too worry that someone will smash a window and open the garage with the push of a button. That's why my homelink hasn't been programmed yet. Would love it if it only worked with ignition or an upfiter switch.

I have the same concern, I actually programmed mine and reset it so it doesn't work anymore. My garage doors are tied to the house alarm and really don't want some idiot setting off the alarm thinking they are going to get in the garage.

garage door opener

mine almost needs to be in the garage before it works, so not much worry for me. Has anyone found a fix for the poor performance of the garage door opener?

A year ago renting a place I woke up one morning to find my garage door open and bike was missing.

What I found out was the guy was casing the place. The garage door had never been reset aka factory codes where still intact. So with some driving around with openers they found a garage that responded, mine. Neoghbors told me my garage door was open several times past few days when I was not home.

Anyways lesson learned change your codes if you can. ******* broke I while we where sleeping too good thing the garage doors are always locked.
