Option C the value of the truck vs the costs to repair seemingly minor defects which may or may not get notice by the customer out weight each other.
The additional costs to pull a truck off the line inspect them further and repair likely is more then just having the end user deal with it. Why stop the line because you have 3 minutes to install brakes. One does not fit correctly so you hammer it in and off it goes. No one will notice until it starts seeing ware and at that point can blame user error or something the likes.
QA for a large company likely costs more then the warranty issues that follow.
They don't "stop the line" when a defect is discovered on a single truck...they just pull that truck aside for rework done by a separate team. The OP's truck should have been pulled aside for rework, but it apparently was not noticed. I don't believe it was intentional.
Kind of makes you wonder what else the inspectors missed. I can deal with human error to a point but these trucks are almost priced in the luxury car bracket and I think we all expect far more attention to detail given the price point. Let us know how the dealer handles it.
a little late. But, here's the repair. They clear-coated the entire door. Looks like it never happened. Like new!

Hey Fountain,
I'm not the CEO of Ford, so its OK. I don't work for them. I really would like to see you keep buying Fords, but its certainly your choice. It would be naive, however, to think that the other HD truck brands out there are going to give you 'perfection' like you want.
When you think of the money spent on a product, you cannot take a big number which accounts for the whole truck and then contrast that with one flaw. So you have one almost unnoticeable flaw in the paint? You didn't get a $75,000 paint job! You got a mass-produced vehicle which has that money divided up over thousands of different parts. I think overall, the quality is very good. I feel the money is well spent giving me unmatched capability and a vehicle that will last a very long time.
cheers to ya either way . ive owned all the brands , and simply not biased , call a spade a spade . 17 fords have work to be done to be best in class .. again nice trucks .. need a little polishing on the rough edges .
Yeah my truck had two spots on the truck that were missing paint that looked like the paint was still wet and someone touched it. The dealer painted both areas no problem at all.
My truck had some bad spots too! Lol, like the whole truck!!! The truck was supposed to be school bus yellow but there was as much red showing as yellow. The box didn't even match the cab. Ford ended up paying to repaint the entire truck...
Is that a factory color option or a dealer option? I don't see that as a color option on fords site.
Yes it is, its a special order paint code with an up charge. Ford will only put it on the lower trim levels and they limit the options you can get with the paint. If you can get a dealer to order the color you might have to wait, Ford waits until they get a bunch of orders in this color before they build them. I think they wait for at least five before they build them. My company ordered five this spring and the came right away. In past years they order one or two and we sometimes wait for 6 months or more.
