Possibly looking to upgrade...
I own a 2008 f-350 CC short bed dually 4x4 XLT V10. I also own a part time landscaping business that keeps my very busy. I've been looking around at older dump/flatbed/flatbed dumps. But man, they are just junk. I pull a heavy dump trailer with the truck. I also have a 5th wheel trailer. I take care of all my stuff and even wash my dump trailer regularly. I also own a 2007 escape I use in winter.
I'm debating trading/selling my truck as the truck is in very good shape and only has 62000 mi. I'm thinking of a 550 chassis with a flat bed dump. I've seen adapters for the 5th where you change out the pin box on the trailer to tow a 5th wheel with a gooseneck. Not an adapter for the pin box. The flat bed can have a door that opens for the goose/5th.
I'm partial to the v10 unless there could be some rebate/deal that's better for a diesel. Just another crew cab XLT.
Now what's keeping from doing this is no payments coming up for me. But the trade/selling value only decreases from here on out. Plus this would be new from the start and I could try my best to keep this is great shape vs buying used. Plus having the capacity and capability for the business. This is not a truck a crew would use. This would be my truck.
Then there's a 2001 F550 7.3 with a I pack and dump bed that's listed for $8500 with 111000 miles. Maybe this is a better choice as I'm sure I could get that price down.
Just looking for thoughts on this new vs used thing.
Thanks!
Current truck definitely meets my personal needs. However, it's not meeting my business needs by being just a pickup truck. Hence the looking at used trucks and thinking new also.
I'm not stuck on a gas motor but I don't see the diesel and it's extra price tag offering me something that saves me money with the usage or improves efficiency that much.. But that doesn't mean I couldn't find a great deal somewhere.
The pro with a "well loved" used truck is that it can fill a need cheaply (purchase) and it will require some maintenance but likely (hopefully) not more than new payments and new insurance costs.
Decisions, decisions.
Thanks for the input.
