i own a f-100 with a 240 engine i was wondering what would make it feel like its bogging down going up a hill i mash the gas it bogs down when i pick my foot off gas speeds up.
Bogging or hesitation on acceleration points to the accelerator pump inside the carburetor as one of the first things to check. Other issues contribute to this is as well but that's a safe bet. Whenever the throttle is opened initially there is always a momentary lag, because the heavier fuel drops out of the increased air volume until everything gets caught up. The carburetor accelerator pump works around this problem by providing an extra shot or squirt of fuel whenever the pedal is depressed to compensate so as to provide a smooth acceleration.
With the engine OFF, remove the air cleaner and peer down the carburetor throat. As throttle is goosed, should see a strong stream or squirt of fuel from each pump nozzle.
If this checks out OK start looking at a defective vacuum advance diaphragm and/or mechanical ignition timing in the distributor.
