Fuel/Water Separater

I'm constantly getting the "Drain Water Separater". I also constantly drain it and just changed the fuel filters and about 3-4 miles I got the warning again. A couple questions, when I drain it the stream never stops and I'm getting NO water, is this ok if it does not stop draining? And, is it difficult to replace the sensor and if anyone has done it can you step me through it please? Thanks

Yes it will drain and drain and drain. Make sure after draining that your cycling the key 4 to 5 times to key on and not run to get the air out.

You may want to disconnect the neg battery cables overnight to clear up the communications from the sensor to the pcm.

Easy things first.

I see your a new member and we welcome you. It helps us to know mileage, use, mods, and current maintenance before the proble surfaced.

Highest regards!!

I had the same problem recently. Kept getting the water in fuel along with the "wrench" and then it de-fueled too. Turned out it was the sensor on the water/fuel separator was bad. Not too hard of a fix, part comes with decent directions. Took about 25 minutes to change it out. Follow the directions closely! Hope this helps.

before I installed the air dog, I ran into this problem...repeated "drain seperator" with no resulting water.

I put a 6 inch teflon hose on the drain

then I used an oil dip stick drain pump to see what I coud suck out.....pumped it up a few times ...and some gunk came out.

after that, no more erratic "drain seperator" with no resulting water.

I can tell you I drain my separator once a month and I always get a little water/particulate out of it. You have to let the fuel/water settle so that it can separate, otherwise you won't see any water and think you're not getting any. I usually drain just shy of 2 cups before the stream stops. I've only had it keep draining on me once...and I think it was because I had a full tank of fuel.

I've never had a dash light related to fuel in water.

HELP!!

08 F250 6.4
VEHICLE HAD TRANSMISSION REPLACED- LESS THAN A 1,000 MILES AFTER REPLACING- FUEL/WATER SEPARATOR LIGHT CAME ON. AFTER THIS WHILE DRIVING ABOUT 60MPH VEHICLE CUT OFF AND WE COASTED ONTO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. LET VEHICLE SIT FOR A FEW MINUTES, VEHICLE WOULD NOT START BACK UP. WHEN ATTEMPTING TO RE-START THERE WAS A LOUD THUMP THUMP NOISE. WHAT SHOULD BE MY FIRST STEP, OR IS THERE ALREADY INTERNAL FAILURE OF ENGINE DUE TO THIS FUEL/WATER CRAP?

fuel sep light not likely related to tranny job

replace all your fuel filters , follow cycle off/ on procedures to bleed air, and it should start if you did not run the fuel pump dry trying to start it with what appears to be clogged filters.

do the bottom filter first

then do the top filter
