1978 HVAC CONTROL PANEL

Has anyone ever tried repainting the lettering on the HVAC head where the original paint-white I think..has worn off? I was thinking about getting a white paint marker and trying to make the letters stand out gain. I've had good success repainting the dash trim bezels and a/c vents with the silver Testors marking pens.

I don't know if that would work or not. The original paint was translucent so the back lighting would show through to illuminate the panel at night.
