Hey I have a 2000 Explorer 5.0/AWD and I'm wondering if anyone here has experience pulling the engine and trans out as one or if they have to be separated to get the transmission out?
I'm planning a transmission swap to replace my bad one in the next few weeks. I would like to just pull it all out and throw new gaskets on the engine too but I know it's already crammed and AWD is a big trans.
I've never done it but I believe it would be nearly impossible to remove the engine, transmission and transfer case in one lump. It may be easier to remove the body. Otherwise remove the tc then you could try to remove the engine and trans together out the top.
I just pulled a 5.0 out of my 96 explorer and the transfer case had to come off it won't clear frame cross members and I pulled motor and trans together but I cut the whole front radiator support off but it was still a tight fit if you pull the exhaust manifolds you may be able to hope this helps
