Hello all, another set back on my 53 F100 build ? While shopping for a starter for my 74 302 ford engine I'm counting the teeth on the flywheel and realize that it has 172 teeth. It's already bolted to crank and the 10 spline 4 speed top loader . I can't find any info on this . I'm wondering if I need to take it back apart and check the imbalance. .your thoughts, thanks
As it turns out I might have miscounted ( I counted 175 but knew that was wrong so I called it a 172) I think it must a 176. there are 176 tooth flywheels listed on Ebay that fit bbfs with 0 balance. I think that i need to pull the tranny again and get the correct flywheel , oh well what's another $150.00.
1981 is the split on flywheels before 1981 28in oz out of balance after 1981 50in oz out of balance if you have the old flex plate that came off the engine any good machine shop with a balancing machine can convert to the right balance get casting number off the block to find out what year as long as nobody has been in there for rebuild or something...
just did a couple of 351w/408 strokers to my knowlage all 351w are 28in oz flywheels the last one I did was a 95/96 factory roller block and it was 28in oz..

I made a counting mistake, I was counting thru the starter mounting hole, I had the right flywheel all along.
