It certainly didn't do it any good. The "steam" is almost certainly antifreeze solution that was hiding out in the water passages. Very hard to drain every last bit out.

I started the engine once and turned it off after a few seconds, checked it for oil pressure, got the phone camera
and rolled the video.
The second run was about 1minute.
it was running nicely on full manual advance.
If I broke it doing that, the bad news is I have about $1000 worth of ebay parts and a 300 pound flower pot
the good news?

There will always be some moisture present in porous materials, as this comes from ambient conditions. In the case of an old engine block, there are many cavities that can escape evaporation, especially if there has been propylene introduced (anti-freeze). That would be the "steam" that you saw boiling off.
