Well you don't say what year your truck is but I wouldn't go by what your '06 did. My '02 F250 7.3 got 8+ years out of the original Motorcraft batteries. Never had to replace the alternator and sold it 6 yrs later with the replacement Costco batteries. I haven't heard any problems with the newer trucks eating batteries, I only have 8500 miles on my '16 dually....so far she fires right up.
I usually get 3-4 years from the batts on a 6.7 engine but my duty cycle is nuts compared to most people. My 2015 just needed new batts last month and I've got 166,000 miles on it. The driver side got swollen up and emanated an awful sulfur stench. I thought I had a dead squirrel or something in the cowl...
means many more starts. I start my truck at least 15-20 times a day. It seems to me that it would shorten battery life. I'm trying a pair of Duracells. I only got a little over 2 years out of the OEM's.
My old 1996 7.3, I got on average 7 years per set. The originals went 7 years and the next set was Wal Mart. I had just replaced them when I sold the truck after owning it 15 years.
I not have 3 years on my 2015 with no signs of either battery giving a problem. The original batteries are 84 month warranty for what it is worth.
On my '12 6.7 PSD I've replaced the batteries once. On my 05 6.0 PSD I would replace the batteries every 1.5 years which wasn't too bad since they failed before the warranty expired. Having said that you could pretty much mark the calendar when a new set would fail and plan ahead.

That's why I liked AutoZone. They would replace both when one showed weak.
I'm at 6.5 years on my original batteries. The passenger side battery has leaked a few times and the indicator shows black. I'm in a northern climate which I'm sure helps some as heat is one of you battery's worst enemies. I'm keeping an eye out for a sale at Sam's Club and plan on installing some new batteries before the snow falls.
