The original Ford mirror is better quality. I suggest you compare the cost of restoring (rechroming) a pair of old ones to the price of repros. Chrome plating is way more expensive now than when I had it done so the choice might be easy for you.
LMC truck sell them. Dennis carpenter as well but they say they are out of stock. ,Doug.
Possible issue with LMC, DC, Obsolete, and Mac's would be the parts country of origin? Once determine correct p/n suggest check w/ supplier to confirm. Green's list item BAAA17696H if correct p/n, and decide to go this route, believe Green's list the item in stock, suggest contact to confirm origin.
Reproduced, EVERY Ford repop seller has this mirror.
FoMoCo updates/replaces part numbers almost as often as women change their minds!
The original (1953/56) part number was BAAA-18402-A this was later replaced by FoMoCo with B5C-17696-A and in 1961 was replaced again with C1TZ-17696-E
Originally, the mirror head was available separately, but when Ford changed the part number in 1961, the mirror head was only available with the mirror, and...
The 1961/66 mirror looks different than the 1953/60 mirror.
Repro mirror pics: See that pointy thing in front of the mirror head? That wasn't there originally, because this is where the replaceable mirror head threaded on.

This must be a new phone number. I first began dealing with Green Sales in the late 1960's, the only numbers I'm aware of: 513-731-3304 & 800-543-4959
ALL the repro's are made in CHINA.
C1TZ-17696-E = Genuine Ford: Obsolete, no Ford dealer or obsolete parts vendor has any.
Stillwell obsolete has a pair of NOS mirrors that shows up on ebay bout every 2 months. They have had them for at least 3 years that I know of and as far as I know they still have the. They are very proud of them.

Are the doors suppose to have factory slots cut into them? Is there a mounting plate inside the door.
My truck doors are smooth...no indication of were the mirrors once mounted

I thought all the doors had the cut outs in them and if no mirror they had a rubber plug in them. As far as mounting if you open your door there should be 4 holes above where the top hinge is that you stuck bolts through to bolt the brackets in with. If all doors did come with the slots then yours were welded shut at one time. Someone who knows for sure will be sure to answer soon.

Thanks. My slots must have been sealed shut along time ago.. thanks for the info about 4 holes above door hinge
Sorry about the sideways rotation. Just turn your monitors....lol.
One other thought - the mirror heads are available separately and are held in place by an allen set screw, not threaded. The pointy thing in front of the mirror head is correct. I have NOS ones of the complete mirror, just the head (shown in the picture), and just the bracket with attaching parts.

You can maybe see the recess in the mounting stud on the backside? That's what the set screw seats into.
I recently installed the LMC mirrors and I have to say I'm quite happy with the quality. My old mirrors were not original and were too large. I wanted something smaller and these fit the bill nicely.
Since your slots have been filled and if you do not want to open them back up; you can buy smallish chrome mirrors that mount above the door on the water channel. I see it a lot on our trucks.
