Okay Randy. I just read this thread over three times and I still don't quite get the picture, so please correct me if I'm wrong.
I just glanced at the numbers on the first page of this thread, and yes it's a no-brainer to even those of us who are remotely familiar with a 6.0L that the engine in this newly acquired ride is DONE!!! Newly acquired by your "BIL" (as in your wife's brother?). Was your BIL even remotely aware of any issues prior to pulling the trigger? What was the intended purpose for an 16 to 20 passenger E-Series BUS is it? Were YOU consulted with, PRIOR to purchase (I'm assuming the answer is NO by what I've read so far, but still need to ask)? By what you describe, BIL is a Mr. Know-It-All Jack-Of-All-Trades Master-Of-None, did I understand correctly?
Anywhoo, I thought I needed to post in this thread, as I too am very interested in knowing the outcome to this $4300 down-the-toilet dilemma. And by the way, don't discourage BIL from replacing it with a 6.4L with LOTS of engine hours and questionable usage/maintenance. He sure sounds like a glutton for punishment.
Pretty crappy shop if they feel like they can outright condemn just the head gaskets.... You know based on the readings you posted I have to agree he is probably looking at water pump, gaskets, EGR cooler and oil cooler at the minimum. However I never understood how people don't want to try and tackle work like this themselves. I mean at worse you throw a couple hundred dollars into it to try and get it right, during the teardown to replace you can do all the inspection you want and if everything is just completely broke you can still part out the motor and make some dough......
Wow that just straight up blows!! At $4300 it should have been a red flag right off the bat.
This forum saved me from a 25k mistake.... I brought a monitor with me, and flogged it on the highway for 15-20 min. It was bone dry before the test drive. Looked like the dealer had put in a new degas bottle. Another RED FLAG. Told them they had a truck with blown head gaskets. No way he said! It's been through our full inspection here at a ford dealership! I left, he called 2 days later confirming blown head gaskets. I offered them 10k never heard back lol

Please keep me posted.
We have a winner!
Wife's sister.
Bus was towed as the seller claimed no plate, but did pass State inspection.
I avoid consulting on anything if possible. It always turns into were better than you most times, bigger house, cost more, better education, that sort of thing attitude. Just easier to avoid.
I'm a communications engineer and I get a similar thing - I must be a PC expert. I ask if they have a backup, wait for the answer, and tell them that by definition their data is not important.

He's cheap, thought he was getting over!
I'll give than $500 for it as it stands if it not being anymore beat up on.
No. The truck has not been mentioned since I declared it DOA! Not one word! But then again, I've been in Seattle and they haven't talked much to us since, at least not to me.
Stop leak, STP, and fuel injector cleaner (any brand) does wonders.
I'm sure fuel filters have been changed and an oil change, the two first cures for everything evil. Spark plugs here won't help. Maybe a peak at the air filter, too.
