I noticed a massive difference in the comfort of the leather seats vs the cloth seats. I test drove a Lariat with leather then test drove an XLT with cloth seats and to my surprise, the XLT cloth seats were much more comfortable and I felt like I was sitting "in" the seat as opposed to sitting "on" the seat with the leather. I bought the XLT and this was one of my big deciding factors. I traded in a 2013 F150 Platinum with leather seats and I think my 2017 SD XLT seats are much more comfortable than my F150 seats. Just my 2 cents.
Ride in a Military HMMWV/Humvee for a few thousand miles then make a comparison. These seats are like a deep tissue massage.
I have driven maybe hundreds of miles, not thousands in Humvee's and I do not remember the driver seat being as bad. Sitting in the back is a different story though......
I swapped my cloth seats with Katzkin leather. They have quite a bit extra padding in them over the cloth ones. Got to compare it back to back last week with a platinum and it's definitely more cushion than the stock leather. The Platinum was really flat and we could feel pressure points in the back and bottom cushions. My dad just ordered some for his platinum F150 after taking a ride last weekend. Viable option if it bugs you enough.
Thanks, I will take a look into that. The lower lumbar seems fine, it is just something about the middle of my back that does not like these seats.
But I will look into it.
Spg01, I have the same seat as you and I unhooked the lumbar adjustment as well. I was really worried about the comfort of the seat until I did this. It changes the whole dynamic of the seat. You can always hook it back up if you don't like it. Once you remove the aggressive lumbar, it takes a little bit of wheel time for the seat top reconfigure. The seat is really supportive and comfortable to me now.

what do you mean by that statement? can you explain?
where is the lumbar adjustment thread again? I hate the excessive lumbar support on the lowest setting
I just got back from My local dealer. I personally think the Platinum seats are the Hardest of the 3 top trim levels.
A couple of Weeks ago My son and I test drove a Platinum, I commented that the seats felt Hard. We then jumped in a Lariat and they felt very soft compared to the Platinum. My Son "who wants me to get a Platinum" said that I was right the Lariat seats felt more plush.
So after reading this thread Yesterday, I decided to go take a look Today. I sat in a KR and it felt about the same as the Lariat. Then I sat in the Platinum and they feel hard as a rock, it actually feels like there's rocks under the leather. I'm wondering if this could be the bladders for the massaging seats I'm feeling? I looked in the info on the screen and they were not inflated.
It seams that I'm in the minority here on which trim level has the most comfortable seats.

In the search bar, enter lumbar and read through the threads that pop up. It's in one of these where a guy posts a link to a f150 thread on how to remove the lumbar tension cable. Our seat are the same as the f150 and the thread shows pics as well. Or just lift up the cloth on the back of your seat and work the lumbar and you will see the cable and how it attaches. It's fairly easy to do. I would have purchased aftermarket seat if I wasn't able to do this as the lumbar was killing my back.

Our XLT has the heated cloth eight-way power driver's seat (Premium Pkg) and the 40/console/40 seat option (I don't know what impact, if any, this option has on the seat construction).
I've only done one long trip so far (~500 miles each way), and I'm so far happy with the front seat comfort. I find that it helps to get the pedal- and steering wheel adjustments set "correctly" for me (6'-7, ~265 lbs.)
I had four Super Duty trucks from the previous generation: a 2012 XLT, a 2015 Lariat, a 2016 XLT, and a 2016 King Ranch. Seat covering material notwithstanding, I felt each truck was as comfortable as the others from a seat perspective (meaning cloth XLT was as comfortable as Lariat or KR leather).
I also noticed right away with my 2017 that the seats were not as comfortable. Just like the guy riding in the ambulance pointed out, the seat bottoms are a little shorter in length, and I've also noticed the seats are both thinner and narrower than the previous generation.
That said, these seats are "acceptable." I would not call them 'uncomfortable' but rather just acceptable. I find that removing your wallet from your back pocket improves long-distance comfort. The lumbar is super aggressive and only feels good in rare instances. If I turn it all the way down, that seems to be OK.
The seats seem to be holding up OK so far. I have 11k miles on my truck since getting it last October.
I found the cloth XLT seats and the active-motion King Ranch seats to be the best by far. I didn't care for the seams on the Platinum seats nor the harder / slicker leather on the Lariat. I thought they were all very nice, just really preferred the KR and XLT seats. We ended up with the KR seats and love them.
