Happy thirsty Thursday Nevada. Hope everyone can stay cool. Supposed to be over 100 today (101 to 103 depending on what radio station is broadcasting it. LOL) So I will get my errands done now, before the heat gets here this afternoon.
Howdy Jim! Calling for 97 here in Omaha. I just hope the humidity isn't high. I haven't been out since I got here this morning, so, not sure what it's like out.
I was thinking about working on the harness after work today until I got off. 110 in the shade. I think I will wait until Saturday morning when it's only about 90.
Made it over 100 today, and wouldn't you know it, the check engine light comes on, and the car overheats. Last time the CEL came on it was a bad or dirty MAF code. So I am guessing that is what it is now since I could not afford to replace it so the mechanic cleaned it. That was back when I first bought the car. Now it is running rough, and with the AC on it started to overheat, so I had to stop and sit with the hood up for about 30 minutes, then drove home (about 25 miles, cars never act up close to home do they?) with the AC off, and the windows down. Uncomfortable, but the car did not overheat. Going to have it checked tomorrow. However, it can't be too expensive, I just put $820 on the cards for the complete brake job.
Good morning Nevada, happy Friday! Glad to hear all is going well with the wife, Craig!
Sucks about the car, Jim. Hopefully it's an easy fix. Not the time of year to not have AC out there! Although, I never use it, unless the wife is with me.
Will find out today what the problem is. I am hoping it is just the MAF sensor as I can replace that. It is too early in the summer not to use the AC, so I am praying it can be fixed relatively cheap.
Another hit to my credit card. This time to the tune of $509.39. The MAF sensor and the electric fan were bad and needed replacing. I could have just paid him the $82 diagnostic fee, and bought the parts myself and installed them, but decided to let him do it since it was 103 yesterday and I was in no mood to work on the car. Just going to be tight for the next few months as I pay down Capital One. It is definitely worth it to be able to use the AC again without the fear of overheating.
Taking a break for the harness install. It's going well so far. I have the old one out and the new one in place. I just need to clean all the connections and get some dielectric grease on them. Then I can get a test run with the old comp to make sure everything is good before plugging in the new one.
I did figure out the 2 cut wires. Apparently someone had cut the plug out that allows you to disconnect the headlight harness. I will remove the end from the old harness and put it back the way it should be. That is one of the few good plugs from the old harness thankfully.
Jim, I am glad you got it fixed. I know the CC is never a way we want to go but they are for emergencies and I believe this qualifies. Glad you are rolling cool again.
Craig, I am glad both you and the wife are on the mend.
Jim, I agree with Greg. Glad you have your car fixed.
Greg with wiring its all about being patient & taking your time. Wiring is not on of my favorite areas. House wiring I don't mind. But vehicles can be a pain with tight places etc.
Well, the car is running fine, but now I am sick. Can't win for losing it seems. Woke up this morning with a queasy stomach and foul tasting burps. I have no desire to eat, although, I did have a couple of slices of turkey breast lunch meat, an 2 cups of Minute Maid Berry punch that my stomach has not thrown back up. Don't really have the desire to eat anything at the moment, so I think today will be a liquid only day.
OK, harness is in and everything is working as it did before. This is good since I am using the old ECU for testing. I will finish putting everything back together in the morning. It's over 100 in the garage even with a fan blowing AC in from the house. It should only take about an hour if everything goes well.
Dang Jim, i hope it doesn't get any worse. rest and get plenty of fluids.
Friends of mine inherited a 1994 Thunderbird from an aunt who passed away several months ago. They finally got it up her from Hanford, and it is sitting in a guest spot at my apartments. We took it in to get it smogged the same day I had the work done on my car and it passed, even though it had been sitting for over a year. It is in pretty rough shape, but does run. It is the V6 engine, and green instead of silver like mine. Runs okay, but there is something wrong with the transmission, however, for a family with no car, it will be a Godsend. Still need to get it registered and insured, but that will have to wait until next month. I put a locking gas cap on it today even though it has the inside release (like an idiot, I did not check it before I bought the cap LOL). I will try to do little things to it that it needs, but am not able to help much until I can get my cards paid down some.
As for being sick. my stomach is not as queasy as it was yesterday, and I even had some milk and Pop Tarts for breakfast, so I will see if they stay down. Don't feel as bad as I did yesterday so I am hoping the worst is over now.
Jim, glad you are feeling a bit better. I hope the car just needs a little TLC for them.
Well, I know I said I wasn't going back out yesterday, but I did. I finished it up and went for a ride. ECU is in learn mode so it's running rich and shifting funny. I hope it doesn't take it long to adjust. So far, so good though and no CEL.
