Little or No Modifications Needed ??

There are so many posts on here about modifications being done to brand new trucks.........upgraded sound systems, lift kits, new wheels & tires, getting rid of chrome, add-ons galore, etc.

So, I thought I would start a thread for those happy with their trucks straight out of the box. I am 1 of those owners. The truck is awesome. I dropped a 5th wheel hitch (oops, is that an add-on ?? ) into the 5th wheel prep package pucks, picked up our new camper, and headed on down the road. Mind you, I did order our truck with the accessories we wanted, and would order the same truck and options all over again.

The Tufskins lettering does intrigue me, and might ask Santa Claus for a set of those.

So for those that are satisfied with their stock trucks, shout out here !!

Oops, It is showing on my computer as right side up, and on my phone as upside down. I will try to figure out what is going on.

I'm with you on modifying a brand new truck to a point. The only mods so far on my 2017 SD Platinum have been cosmetic. I learned a long time ago to leave the suspension and drive-train alone. For those doing the lift kits and drive-train modifications power to you. There are so many aftermarket modifications available these days it's hard to resist. A lot of folks like to make their truck their own because as it's been said most all look the same and I don't blame anyone for wanting something that looks a little different. If you've got the disposable income then go for it.

Really happy with the stock truck, but HAD to add a few things like carpet liners, grill guard (to protect grill from anti-Trump protesters on the highway) and a bed cover...

This thread was not meant to begrudge those that choose to modify their trucks, as I understand owners wanting to customize their trucks (making it their own). What I was trying to imply is that the Super Duties are great looking trucks ready to take on the job just as the come from the factory, with intention of those that want to post their small modifications/add-ons.

I don't think he was begrudging anyone but just saying if you can afford that game good for you!

Outside of steps, flaps, and few other needed equipment, I plan on leaving the truck alone for the most part. I've modded every rig I've ever had and it's never ending. I think this time I'll leave it stock...maybe.

The Super Duty's are incredibly capable and beautiful trucks straight from the dealership. I have made a few modifications, but in each case, they are 100% utilitarian. Tire upgrade because the michelins it came with are unacceptable on the snow and ice we have in Alaska. Mudflaps because we build a ridiculous amount of snow and ice on the steps without them. Bed cover to keep the bed from filling with snow and ice. Hood deflector to keep the windshield from completely filling with bugs during summer driving. I'll be doing Rancho shocks for better control while towing and I added a hellwig big wig anti-sway bar to make towing better. I will also add a heating pad to the oil pan and wire in the high idle before winter hits again to keep the truck healthy in cold weather. I don't understand the aftermarket wheels and leveling/lifts, but to each his own. All the badging and chrome parts swap outs are asinine in my opinion. I loved this truck from day one before a single modification was made, and now as I add these utilitarian changes, it just gets better.

Well, I even tried turning my computer upside down, but it didn't help. Danged iPads!

On a serious note, I'm probably going to modify mine more than I have most of my new vehicles. I'm going to level it - by lowering the rear. I'll be towing a variety of fivers and I think it will be high for some of them. If airbags and hitches don't count, that will be about it.

I think a lot of the Leveling comes from owning previous generation ford trucks, Back in the 70's + they were pretty much level off the showroom floor and you get use to it over the many years.
I know I got use to looking straight out the hood and not feeling like I'm driving down hill all the time. Back then everyone Lifted there trucks all around to keep it level, Aerodynamics have changed all that these days, so leveling has become popular. If you look at the old F-150's in the 70's they were Dana 44 solid front axles and Coils much like todays F-250's and the F-250's and 350 were Leaf springs in the front. We lifted 2-3 trucks a week at my shop back then, Drop pitman arms, longer drive shafts, added leafs all around. Completely different in todays market. The Trucks off the show room floor are perfect but with the right approach they can stay that way & Level.

I don't care as much that it's level, but that the rear is lower than stock. My self-imposed limits are that I don't want to change the suspension (on either end) or have the rear lower than the front.

I wont level, like I did my previous SD, I saw several on my last trip that had been leveled when empty, but when hooked up the nose is in the air. You'll also need airbags to re-level when loaded. Mine sits level when the TT is hooked up. All I have done so far is through forscan, temps above gauges. And ordered a Helwig big wig from trucksprings. need to check on them, been 2 weeks and no info on shipping.
edit: forgot the hood deflector.

We've also kept our mods to a minimum:

1) Installed Weathertech floormats front and rear (rather than order from Ford)
2) Installed Weathertech mudguards front and rear (rather than order from Ford)
3) Replaced 4x incandescent tail light bulbs with Sylvania ZEVO 3157R LEDS's; GREAT improvement!
4) Used FORSCAN to reprogram tail light circuit monitor from incandescent to LED (got rid of instrument panel turn indicator hyper-flash)
5) Used FORSCAN to reprogram TPMS reference settings down to 50 psi front and 60 rear
6) Installed my old TomTom GPS unit (free lifetime map upgrades!). I'm pretty much done buyin' 'n' learnin' new GPS systems every time I buy- or rent a vehicle.

That's it, and I don't foresee any major changes. I suppose I should get a black close-fit hood deflector.

Regards,
Jim / crewzer

Stock is wonderful

I also love my truck stock.
The only things I added were Linex Bed liner, Gaterback mud flaps, Ford tri-fold soft tonneau cover, a Console Organizer and a Amp Research Cargo Organizer.
These Minor Mods make A Beautiful Truck Slightly More Functional. Nothing I Have Seen Would Make Any Serious Impact In My Enjoyment Of This Truck.e

Ford Nailed It With This One !!
