Our 2012 F350 Lariat gets used almost exclusively for towing our fifth wheel (we're full-time RVers). The built-in navigation is not well suited to RV use, so plugged into the 12V outlets in the dash and center console (either with 12V plugs or USB adapters) are: 1) an RV GPS, 2) a dash cam, 3) the monitor for the rear view camera on the fifth wheel, and 4) the TPMS monitor [for both truck and trailer].
Since these outlets are live all the time - even when the truck is off - I have to unplug all these devices each time we stop so that there is not excessive drain on the batteries over the days to weeks we are in one place. Looking through the manual, I don't see where making these outlets switch on and off with the key is an option. Does anyone know a not-too-difficult way to convert these outlets to being on only when the key is on?
The adapter has outlets for three 12V plugs and four USB ports. It's a cleaner solution than having wires still running down the side of the console to those power outlets and the plug for the adapter has a push-button on/off switch that I can use without unplugging anything.
I tapped into the Violet power wire going to the upfitter switches thru the harness that passes right past the area to power my 12v outlets.
Awhile ago I created this post.
It would really work well with the 3 port item in the previous post.
