2012 5.0 FX4 engine randomly shuts down while driving
I have been battling an issue for now two months. First issue was attempting to start truck and upon turning the key nothing would happen. Dash and everything lights up but engine wouldn't turn over. You could then take key out of ignition place it back it and truck would start perfectly.
Then the engine started shutting down while driving down the road. No pattern to shut down. I could be going 30Mph, 50Mph, or setting at a stop light and it acts like the key is turned off. Once again, place in park turn, take key out place it back in and it starts right up.
I've taken to dealer they have replaced BCM, ignition switch, ran diagnostics on all computers, checked connectors between computers AND IT STILL randomly shuts down.
I've spent over $1,700 on this thing and am now faced at taking it back to the dealer. Anyone have an idea what the issue might be?
Kurt, I am sorry to hear this & I cant imagine your frustration with this issue. Since so many bases have already been covered, I am wondering if it has anything to do with the Transponder Key itself ? Other things that I've ran across on various makes/models which cause immediate/abrupt engine shut-down are Cam or Crank Sensors. Hopefully someone else more knowledgeable or someone from Ford will chime in....Good luck
Have you verified all your grounds at the frame, engine, starter, and battery are clean and tight? What's your battery voltage when the engine is shut down and when running?
