I am going with the solid side flat glass on my 53
, for those that have experience with this are you using the complete kit or if not where are you getting the extended window rubbers ? I haven't got right into it yet but can the existing front channel be made to work ? If so the inner and outer belt seals and a longer window channel rubber would be all that is needed after the straightening of the opening of course .
The biggest PITA in this job is trimming the upper door hinge pocket and hinge to accommodate the front window channel relocation. Welding in the window opening angles at the upper edge of the door is also tricky. As for the wipers, there are many sources for this material...it can be cut to size and fitted as needed, no need for custom wipers. As for the "existing front channel", that is part of the vent wing assembly and cannot be used for the single side glass setup. I guess I shouldn't say "can't" because it is possible just not the best solution. This channel is easily made with some 18 ga steel that has been bent in a u-shape. There is a tab welded on this channel that bolts to the upper door hinge and this channel also forms the window channel in the upper door where the vent assembly was removed. The complete kit from MidFifty at $350 is a good value since you get everything you need in one box. Sometimes the aggravation of pulling all the pieces together separately is not worth the cost savings.
Ok thank's CharlieLed , $350 American turns into $600 here but still may be like I'm finding many things , simply worth it because of the time it would take to manufacture a lot of these things with salvage parts as my original build was going to be .
