vans W/sticks

I'm considering a van for travel/camping for the two of us. Fuel economy is a priority. I know nothing of old econolines, but I like the 300/4.9 six and prefer a stick. How late were these offered? What should I look for?

An old guy I used to work with had an 86 Econoline with a 300 six 4speed OD, ran beautiful at 85MPH!

I have seen E-series vans with sticks, but they were all pre-83, and had either a 3speed, or a 4speed overdrive. It would be possible to take one of these, and put an NP-435 in it for strength, but you will have to make a custom shifter. The best way to go would be an AOD.
