86 300 ignition convertion

OK I know this subject is been beat to death but need help. 86 f-150 300 inline 6 wanting to convert away from computer. Truck already has most of the smog stuff gone. Was wondering if the Cardone distributer model 84-2669 from summit racing will work for this. I am also going to order a yfa no feedback carb. I haven't been able to find a donor wiring harness yet but still on the hunt. I just wanted some expert advise from all the gurus here. Thanks guys ron

Do you have link to that dist.?
Because of the harness of lack of is why some have bought a HEI dist. and wire itin using a relay to power it.

Another way to go would be an older points dist. with a PerTronix kit to replace the points.

I just have the stock distributer, harness, and carb still. I have just been researching this to do before long. Who ever had this truck before butchered the cap out of it and now I'm trying to redo it for my son. I've been reading the threads on here about changing the carb and ignition, since half the smog is already gone and I'm pretty sure it is running on limp home mode I need to do something. Any help or suggestions is greatly appreciated.

The hard part is the harness. If you can find one in a JY great, I don't know how hard or if you can make one?
I have seen it posted Painless Wiring make a harness but it is $$.

If you need a year to go by for the parts try 1981 my trucks do not have a computer but uses the DSII system.

Great, thanksthis project kinda turned into more then I thought it was going to be. The things we do for our kids. He just graduated high school, got the truck on his own, and leaves for the marines in a month, so I told him I would fix it up for him. Oh man what a job it has become.

Looks like it will.
Because the HEI need a full 12 volts you wire it up using a relay pretty easy.

Sorry ask so many questions but was wondering if anyone has ordered a carb from guaranteed carbutetors I was looking at their site and thinking I might order mine from them probably one for an 83 none feedback since I'm doing away with all the emissions on the 86. Thanks again guys

I did the same thing, for the same reason. My emissions control system had been hacked up the previous owner(s) so bad that it eventually caught on fire. Hahah. It was at that point I decided I didn't have the skills to un-F all of it so I ripped it out and did what you are doing.

I swapped over to the HEI distributor when I got rid of my feedback carb and computer. Here's the relay to send 12v to the coil when the key is on.

30 is (+) in from my battery, 87 is (+) out through the relay to the coil, 85 is coming back up to the screw to ground it, and 86 is the 12V that is hot when the key is on to trigger the 30-87 circuit.

Then you find a ported vacuum source that's pulling zero at idle and only pulls vacuum when you put your foot on the gas. I'll take a picture in a minute to show you where I'm getting mine.

Here's my ported vacuum source. This is the front right side of the carb. I switched to the older non-feedback carb.
