F1 hinge pins R & R

F1 hinge pins R & R
Good afternoon FTE family!
After a search on pin removal/replacement I thought I would start a new thread to get opinions on procedures. I would like to have the goose neck hinge mounted mirrors.
I thought it might be good to have advice on prepping the mirror mount as I understand they do not fit well.
Do you have a temporary pin until the door is painted?
Are the "heads" of the pins painted on the lower hinge and the upper is not painted, because it needs to be installed after paint?
Is that hinge pin stainless?
I like to have an end game in mind....
I have learned so much from you all, and look forward to your input again!
Best regards,
Doc

I assume that you mean this type of mirror?
The mirror head and the pins are stainless but the bracket is chrome over pot metal. Be careful that you don't push too hard on the mirror bracket before tightening the set screw or over tighten the set screw or you will break the bracket.
Those hinge pins can be a bear to remove. I had to take my upper hinges off to get them out. The pins are splined at the top and collect rust so they really can be tight. If you do a search of this forum you will see lots of different suggestions, tools and solutions. I finally had to drill mine down through the head past the splined section.

What an awful job to remove those pins. Working on my 1952 F3, just today I spent 2 hours to remove one of those suckers. Penetrant oil, hammer and center pin, and heat... Still have 3 to go. Bad luck for me that mine are hardened steel, so impossible to drill thru...
Lower hinge, driver side... done
Upper hinge, driver side... waiting to gooooo!

Finally got both pins out... Gotta reckon that the best method is to drill the top of the hinge pin and then push it all the way down... in just 15mins got it done. Hammer is required of course... as penetrating oil to help. Thank God I decided to do this before final coating... I messed up the primer real bad so I gotta fix it, but it will be easier this way...
First mark the head with a sharp center pin tool to help center the drill bits, then used a 4mm drill bit and after that 6mm drill bit, carefully not moving away from pin center axis... piece of cake!
I stole this pic from the web to illustrate the new pins I intend to install. Stainless steel...

Here is a pic of my hinge and a little flat spot I had to grind in the hinge so to fit the mirror also ground out a small ridge in the mirror bracket
Doesn't show that good on this one
H
This side I ground out a lot more
The hole were not correct or the ears on the mirror were not extended far enough
I hope it doesn't break or rust
